Is Your Business Ready to Grow?

Growth sounds like it’s always a good thing, but growing before you’re ready can put more strain on a business than staying the same size for another year. A few honest checks can tell you which situation you’re in.

Signs you might be ready

  • You’re regularly turning away work or customers because you’re at capacity.
  • Your profit margins are healthy, not just your sales numbers.
  • You’ve got a clear idea of who your best customers are and where to find more of them.
  • Your day-to-day systems (bookings, invoicing, stock) can handle more volume without falling over.

Where growth usually comes from

Selling more to your existing customers, finding new customers like your best ones, expanding into a nearby market, or adding a related product or service are the four most common paths — and usually the least risky ones to start with.

Check in regularly

Revisit this every few months rather than treating it as a one-off decision. What wasn’t the right time to grow six months ago might be exactly right now — or vice versa.
